Camerons General Store

aka The Country Corner Store

Cameron's General Store was originally built by Mr. Duncan Cameron sometime in the late 1800's making it one of the oldest stores on Manitoulin Island.

Duncan Cameron died May 17, 1928 and the store was then transferred to Mr. Cameron's daughter,              Mrs. Hardy -Elizabeth- Fulford.

This building has been operated by various people through the years who leased it from the Fulford Family.

The store was operated by Mr. Don McDougall and his wife Grace as East End General Store until they moved in the 1960's.

The building remained dormant until June 1977 when the store was opened as Rainbow Country Variety and operated by Mr. Les Glanville and his wife Elsie Glanville.

In 1984 Mr. Blair McDermid ran the store. Other enterprising people where Neil and Diane Chmielak, Stu Noble, Morley and Elaine Lanktree and Mary Lou Patterson.

In 2002,2003 and 2005 summer seasons, the store has been operated as a craft store.

Somewhere along the way the store became known as the Country Corner Store and is still known as such to the local town people.
