Spring Bay
The history of Spring Bay begins in the vicinity of the Stanley Park and Mindemoya Cave area. During the town's beginnings it was named Cavemount until 1897.
In 1897 the town was relocated to it's present site.
After securing their land from the Indian Land Agent in Manitowaning, settlers traveled over native trails to find homes in the vicinity of Spring Bay. In those days there were few roads to be found on the Island.
Some of the known family names of the first settlers in the Spring Bay area were:
Bock, Haner, Hartley, Lanktree, Lougheed, McColeman, McKechnie, McMillan & Sloss
The first couple to be married on the 10th Line in Spring Bay was George Hartley and Francis Maynard.
