W.A. McColeman Store

In 1937/1938 W.A. McColeman built a store on the corner of Perivale Road East and highway 542.

The W.A. McColeman was a General Store that sold B.A. (British American) gas, oil, Wagg’s butter & milk, canned goods as well as hardware. One notable item for sale was blocks of ice. The blocks were cut from Lake Kagawong and W.A. stored it in a shed. The ice blocks were covered with sawdust to keep the ice from melting.

In the winter of 1965 W.A. McColeman closed his business.

The family spent their winters in Toronto and would return to Spring Bay for summer vacations.

W.A. McColeman was born in 1891 and passed away in 1968.

This store remained unused for several years and burnt down in 1981.

W.A. McColeman's wife Doris Margaret McColeman passed away in 2004.
