Providence Bay War Memorial Arena

In 1946 many community members came together to form an Arena Committee. On January, 17, 1946 at the Providence Bay S.S. No. 6 Public School (now known as The School House Restaurant) the very first Providence Bay Arena Committee meeting was held. The original Arena Committee members from Providence Bay & Spring Bay were: J.F. McDermid, Cameron Gordon, H.G. Oakes, W.J. Dinsmore, Milton W. Buie, Willard Reed and E.G. Burch. A building plan was drafted and fundraising efforts were started to get the project started. Letters were sent to numerous companies in Ontario asking for donations.

Timber for the Arena was donated by Neil McDermid and Cam Gordon; and was from their lot in the Sandbluff at Carter's Bay.

The milling of the timber for the Arena was done by George Lentir.

The construction of the Providence Bay Arena was completed in 1949.

The list is to vast to mention all the numerous people who contributed time, skills, meals, money and materials to build the Providence Bay Arena which is still today in the year 2005 a popular indoor ice skating rink for community members to enjoy.
